Federica is from Rieti, a small city in the Sabine region, North of Rome, Italy. She graduated with a laurea in Foreign Languages (English, Russian, French) from the University of Rome La Sapienza, a professional diploma from Rome’s School for Interpreters , and a Ph.D. in Italian Studies from the Johns Hopkins University. She has been teaching Italian language, literature, and culture (at Hopkins, at the University of Pennsylvania, and currently at the University of Maryland) since 1994. Her volume Alessandro Manzoni’s The Count of Carmagnola and Adelchis was awarded the Ennio Flaiano prize for Italian Studies in 2005. Italian-English translation and the Italian nationhood are among her main interests.
