SelinusDidrachm_480 to 466BC…contains a parsley leaf design. The city Selinus was named after fields of wild parsley growing nearby.
Magna Graecia…the name itself evokes an image of intrepid Greek colonists settling Sicily and southern Italy and beyond. Especially famous was the colony of Syracuse, home of the celebrated Archimedes, but there were so many others: Messana (Messina), Selinus (Selinunte), Leontinoi (Leontini), Heraclea Minoa (Eraclea Minoa), each with a distinctive history…and many with their own coinage. Collector Frank Palumbo brought examples of ancient coins and described them in historical context.
